New blog, More appropriate title, first Lions post

Weird thing I've found under the bleachers: A ziplock baggie full of un-shelled peas.

Hey, getting married on July 4th. Woot!

Now I've considered linking back to a previous post detailing many personnel moves I thought the Lions should make, notably who they should get rid of. They didn't listen to me, of course, and went 0-16. All those moves I suggested? They've now made them. This gives me hope.

Other things that give me hope? The Lions draft. Really. Not kidding. Matthew Stafford has managed to take all the focus off of Detroit's draft as a whole and put it on himself. Personally, I like the pick. Daunte Culpepper isn't the long-term solution at quarterback, no matter how much of his former glory he's able to recapture this season after being reunited with offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. He's not who I came to talk about though. 2 names. Pay close attention, there won't be a test, but either I'll get to say how right I was here or you get to make fun of me for being wrong. Brandon Pettigrew (drafted 20th overall) and Louis Delmas (33 overall).

I'll start with Pettigrew. He's the first complete tight end that the Lions have had since David Sloan began his injury shortened career. And this kid can block. Saw video of him absolutely dominating Brian Orakpo last season. Not only will he help pave the way for 2nd year back Kevin Smith (who finished just 24 yards shy of 1,000 despite severely limited action in the first half of the season) but he's also a solid receiver, and at 6'5 he'll be a huge target over the middle. The Lions were dead last in third down conversions last year, Pettigrew should put the Lions in more manageable third down situations with his blocking and may well be the clutch target for picking up the first downs on third and short.

Louis Delmas may well be the second coming of Benny Blades, at least as far I'm concerned. Watching the highlights of this kid I felt my teeth rattle. With Danile Bullocks and this cat in the backfield along with Phillip Buchanon and Anthony Henry (both offseason acquisitions) our secondary may not suck, at least not as bad, and we'll have a pair of safeties that may just scare some people.

Anyway, it's late so I'm off to bed. It's good to be blogging again.

Weird note: My last blog entry was two days after my first date with the girl I'm going to marry in July. Kinda neat too.
